First Time Landowner! Need some help!
I am a first time land owner and just purchased 43 acres of land in the Western NY region. I'm thinking of setting up some random plots in certain areas. I do not have any equiptment to plow the seed, so does anyone have any suggestions on anything I can do? Like I said this is my first time as a land owner, so I'm sorry if I sound like I don't have a clue.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome,
While there are others here that can give better advise than me,
I am from NYC and have 48 acres upstate near watertown,
have planted some small, very small plots by hand,
i dont have any equipment and use no plow seeds and rake what i can,
i am planning on renting or getting a local to plow a larger area, but for now its me and a rake,
where in WNY is your land?

do you have a truck and a riding lawn mower? can you fabricate simple earth scarifying things with angle iron, nuts/bolts, a drill and bits? you'd be amazed what you can do with a little bit of creativity. it's not rocket science.

1) identify all the plants, trees, bushes on your land.
2) determine which are non-native invasives, and which are native and benificial to wildlife. Also try to figure out what native bushes and trees might be absent from your land
3) Start removing non-native bushes and trees .... prioritize, give existing beneficial trees and bushes room to grow first.
4) start planting native bushes and trees, oaks, american plum, serviceberry, hackberry, dogwoods, highbush cranberry, apple, ect.
5) If you have space and time, plant a foodplot.

I just purchased it in Alden NY, a suburb of Buffalo. I thought about trying Evolved Habitats Easy Plot Forage, and or Whitetail Institute Imperial No-Plow Wildlife Seed Blend. Has anyone had any sucess with any of these?

One of the best things you can do is buy the book Grow 'em Right. www.NorthCountryWhitetails.com And, read and follow their advice.

You'll get all kinds of advice on which product to use - the store-bought versions can be good.
I wouldn't probably go with the NoPlow - because its a really cheap mix of annuals that you could do yourself.
But I would suggest - looking on this site - and others for some info.
If I were doing a first plot - I'd go with the Imperial Whitetail Clover - for the video - more than for the seeds.
You'll learn alot looking for information - If we can offer advice anytime - let us know.
