Chickory Question
Anyone plant chickory?
I have planted just clover in the past and had great luck with it. However I am thinking of plantin some chickory on some logging roads with poorer soil, lower ph etc.
Was wondering?
1. How does it draw the deer?
2. Do the deer like it as compared to clover?
3. How well will it grow in poor soil?
4. Will it last into December and will it be palatable to the deer at that time.
5. How long does it last as far as being a perrenial
In my expereience with clover it draws deer in amazingly well but its gone by late archery/rifle season and isnt much of an attractant after that.
If chickory is not the ticket then I am going to go with winter rye.
Thanks
Greg

RE: Chickory Question
Hey Greg -
Chickory has not been much of a topic on this site.
I'm planting a mix this spring, with chicory, and brassica. I hope to learn a little bit about it - Sorry I cannot share firsthand experience.
I understand that it can handle limited mowing, so it sounds like it could be used in a mix with a spring planted clover - as a summer attractant until the clover is established. I really do not know how it performs as a fall forage - maybe someone else can help.
