will dormant seedbeds germinate
i expanded three food plots and planted inoculated ladino, p.t. turnips, and rye the first week of september. it has not rained since late august and the seedbed was/is "powdery" from multiple passes with the roto-tiller during soil prep. i assume the turnips will be a total lose, but i'm more concerned w/ the germination success rate of the clover if it rains this weekend.

most weed seeds can be dormant for up to 20 years.
i would think that clover, nips and rye could last 4-6 weeks with no problem.
after all, it's a wild plant. surely the plant's genetics would allow it to be dormant for a year or two. otherwise, we wouldn't have these kinds of plants around.

you'll get germination from the clover eventually. It may not be as heavy as if it rained after you planted, but you'll get 60-80% I guess. Your turnips are probably gone. If your concerned, purchase some more seed and when it looks like rain coming, spread it out(overseed)on your worked up soil, and you'll get some germination from the new seed also. Taz

I'm in the same boat as strmchzr. I planted shot plot, clover plus, and green patch plus. The brassicas in the shot plot are probably done for and clover might be alright if it would ever rain here, but what about the wheat and oats in the GPP?

I sure wish we could have some of Florida's hurricane here in Mt. We haven't crap fro rain since June. My two plots look like the Saharah desert. I Sprayed them and put some Oats in hoping tht they would green up for Archery Season but no rain. I hope that it rains or I justed wasted 100 lbs of Oat seed. Will they sprout next spring? I guess I'll see how hearty Chicory is also. I sprayed most of the plots but some had some "green left" We will see.
