Archer; if you cover the weed cloth with 4" of wood chips you should be OK until the trees can fend for themselves.

Hawgnman; here's a low quality shot. Why wouldn't you just plant a few trees where you want them? In a few years they'll be supplying the deer without any work.

It still wouldn't hurt to plant a few trees in the waste areas. If you bring in acorns the wildlife will eat them but the numbers of nuts will be so small that it won't be a relied on food source. On the other hand it should let the squirrels do some planting for you.
