Electric Fences Deer Exclusion Temporary versus Permanent
We have established a test electric fence around a feeder. Deer have been coming to the area and visiting the feeder for many, many years. We put up the electric fence to test the exclusion of cows, feral hogs, racoons and possums with anticipation on using it for a 1.5 to 2 acre food plot. We have six lines of polywire and a top line of polytape and the fence is approximately 34" tall and the fenced area has four 50' sides so it isn't too confining. The fence has excluded cows, no hogs have visited and the cameras show deer being shocked. The problem is that the deer won't jump the fence to reach the feeder.
We've had it up for three weeks and now we're concerned that if we do this for a food plot and set up the double fences system to exclude deer until the crop is established, that when we take down the outer perimeter fence, the deer will refuse to jump the fence and pursue the planted crops. Has anyone experienced or heard of any such problem with the deer being permanently repelled by being initially shocked? We didn't put up an outside perimeter fence on the test plot because we didn't anticipate the deer would refuse to jump the fence to get to the food.

Bad news
In our experience the deer that were zapped didn't come back for a long time. I grew up on a farm, and I'm surprised the cows didn't get zapped and charge through your fence. Stick with it. There will be a few nay Sayers out there.
