What' s corn worth??
We are considering making an offer to the farmer who' s land we lease in WI to leave 2 to 4 acres of standing corn. We have a good relationship with him and we are hoping he will see it as business....as in keeping us happy so we continue to give hime $2750 a year to lease his property.
What can we expect to pay for a fair price per acre?
Ex: Price per bushel x bushel' s per acre = price per acre?
What do you guys think?

Maybe you can pay him to delay harvest until the season (winter or hunting) is over. It may be cheaper on you if he agrees. The price of corn and yield varies quite alot. For a start try about $2.40/Bu and about 150 Bu per acre. Both the price and yield can and will vary from what I told you. The price somewhere in $2-3 range adn yield some where in the 50 to 250 Bu range.

Corn has little nutritional value, but is great for late season hiding. I would trought the farmer a few hundred to do a late harvest. To you that' s about all it' s worth. See if he would do a Fall/Winter/Early Spring planting for you. I think your money would be better spent.

Lunchbucket,
Here' s a question for you. Seeing as corn has little nutritional value, I have noticed that farmers where I used to live in Illinois would put their cattle on corn during the winter months and especfially if they were getting them for market. I beleive that was to fatten them up prior to sale. If that is the case, it would seem that corn in the late fall, after the deer have had available high protein food from our food plots, that this would help the deer build up a fat layer to get them through the winter. So, wouldn' t a late supply of corn be a good winter food for them?

The area is about 1/2 farmland, with rolling hills(mountains to me), and has plenty of spring/summer food sources, with a great supply of oaks as well. The deer make it fine throught the winter, and experience no winter losses. We just want an easy fall attractant for deer season. Corn is king for the time period we want, and conveniance for a leas property.

Hey Partner!
I thing we can wait and see what Mr. Larsen says...maybe he' ll be lower just cause he' s a nice guy.
I like the idea of paying him a little to delay harvest until after the season for a larger portion, say 5 acres along the bench area and 2 acres along the turkey-tree stand.

Most Definately - for sure run it by him, I would seriously hope he would strongly think about it. Regardless - one way or another I would like to see him leave some standing along the bench and the turkey tree. We need to tie up some loose ends with him and make sure we are on the same page. Maybe even plan a day trip down - I would like to clear some " walk-in" lanes over by Carl' s and then the Berry / Briar patch.
