Default My deer are pirahnas. Help protect my food plot.

Man I did not think I would be saying this but I have WAY to many deer. I got a new lease and I am prepping it to give my father in law the best chance he could have and so I went with a good food plot. So here are the facts.

Plot is in north Florida.
The entire area burned 2 years ago so my PH is a very nice 6.6-6.8
I am planting a road that equals about 1/4 an acre with direct sunlight all day long.
I have planted it already with Iron Clay Peas.
It has been tilled and lots of 10-10-10 has been put down.
The first 2 weeks the peas exploded outof the ground.
I visit the road and get to see a couple of does.
The next week I hunt a stand for hogs and walk out on the road and get to see no less than 25 deer.
The next 2 weeks I come back and it looks like I am growing a road full of little green twigs.[:@] They ate the whole damn road.

Now a buddy of mine says to use manorgamite(sp?) or what they call sludge(people poo). He also says to mix sorgum seed in with the clay peas to give them cover and that will let the peas grow big enough that they wont be able to clean them off. so my questions are this.

Have any of you used the people poo and how long will it keep Bambi off the forage?
Do you think there is a better seed mixture for planting the road at this time of year?
I was thinking of using Biologic Maximum blend or am I just to hopeful (I got deer out of the ears anyway)?
Any other brand you think is worth experimenting with?

can you plant later in the year so the 25 deer are eating during the season?

I'm not sure about 'sludge' but there are other products out there that will keep deer away from food plots (or gardens, flowers, etc.).

I had pretty much the same thing happen--except they then ate the stems too!

I think the product you are asking about is milorganite. Not sure where to find it though. You might look at one of those plot savers. It is a ribbon that you string around the plot ande soak with something to repel the deer. Some people have luck with this.

From what I understand about food plots, ones that are made this early are usually the bigger ones, like acres big. With about a 1/4 of an acre, probly wait till September(guessin season is November) to plant a smaller area. You know that there are plenty of deer and that they will come to a plot. Put it up a little before the season and badabing badaboom! Big buck down!

you need to do some serious culling. Clay peas are ice cream for deer. You need to plant several acres if you are to get any to reach maturity. You could spray it with an organic deer repellent that will last a few months. www.plantskydd.com works great maybe to good for this application, but if you mixed it weak it might wear off just about the time you needed to start hunting it. they also have those tape fences that you put a round the plot until you are ready to let them feed/
