Default What exactly grew?

Well my first attempt at a foodplot was pretty much a failure. The drought that we had in east killed me. We got almost no appreciable rain in August or September. That being said, I did get a little growth of something. I'm not sure what. I planted chicory, rape, and turnips the first week of August. After getting almost no growth, I rebroadcast Oats mid-September. Below are a couple of pictures of what grew. The growth was very sporadic. So my question is....what came up? Was it something I planted or weeds of some type.

Picture #1 - the most common plant that came up. It started showing up before I planted Oats in mid-September.
Picture #2 - a grass-like growth. I suspect it is probably the Oats because it didn't start showing up until late Oct.
Picture #3 and #4 - my sorry foodplot.

Sorry to hear about you droughty plot - stinks but it happens to all of us though.

looks like a Turnip.

Good news is that the plot will be very well prepared for next spring. Start thinking now aboutwhat you will put there in the spring, and what you need to add (if anything) to the soil.

I'd vote for a clover/chicory blend - but you might have other plans.

Well, with the green you got right now, You'll introduce what did sprout as nutrients next year.... always look at the bright side.

Pic 1 is definitely turnips. Pic 2 looks like it may be oats.

Did you soil test, lime and fertilize? What kind of soil prep did you do? August is a horrible time to plant anything. The turnips should have gone in the ground in late June. The chicory and rape, September. I'd burn off those leaves and frost seed a clover/chicory mix in this spring.

Yes, yes, and yes. I put on 2 Ton of Lime and the recommended amount of 15-15-15 fertilizer. Mostly cleared the land by hand, then later got a dozer in there to finish it off. I tilled the entire thing with a walk behind tiller (took a week). I planted it roughly 7-10 days after completion. I was aiming for a day of rain, but the rain never materialized as forcasted. We did get some rain about 10 days after planting, but I'm not sure if it was enough.

Here are some staging pictures:
