Default WANTED - Seedlings

Well, I waited too long to order my seedlings, and just found out that the DEC nursery is out of all of the varieties that I wanted to order. Does anyone know ehre I can order apple, oan and cherry trees relatively inexpensively? Will the supplier ship to NY? Thanks.

What is an "oan"? For other trees do a google search with the tree type, state and the word nursery. You should come up with something. You could also contact the local turkey groups and the DNR.

Hi Dan -

This is the source I use

St. Lawrence Nurseries

http://www.sln.potsdam.ny.us/

They specialize in Cold Hardy trees and plants.

The NY State Nursery in Saratoga is really good for conifers - and some other trees - but their hardwood seedlings are very small and young. Many of my oaks from there just didn't make it.

The St Lawrence Nursery in Potsdam is really good for fruit & nut trees. I get grapes, rasberry and a few other plants there too. Its a little more pricey than the State Nursery - but the variety and quality is really good.

Good luck
FH

FH, Thanks for the heads up. I am going to end up spending quite a bit more than planned, and planting far fewer apple and cherry, but more evergreens. Next year I will get my Saratoga order in earlier. I will try to post pictures as my endeavor develops.

You could try here also to see if they have something you like, and they will ship out of state.

What county do you live in?? Most Soil & Water Conservation Districts have seedling sales. I can give you phone numbers of the counties around you and you can see what they have to offer. At Broome Co. we have over 60 species. Generally our trees/shrubs are a bit better quality than the DECs and are generally ~$1-1.50/seedling. If you are looking for big bulk order, you could go directly through or supplier - Meadowview Nursery.
