Homemade Deer Towers
My wife is interested in taking up deer hunting w/ a rifle but her willingness to endure real cold temps is not too high. My alternative is to build some tower blinds on my farm (140 acres). Is there a cheaper alternative to the manufactured ones. Would anyone know of internet sites that might help with construction plans? Any help would be great. Thanks.

My fixed stand is 4 steel post bases driven into the ground, 4 - 10' 4x4" wolmanized posts mounted upright with a 4 X 4' skid screwed inside. The structure up from the skid is an extension of 2X4's with plywood screwed on the outside and a ladder up one wall. The roof is also just 2x4's and plywood. It was very cheap and simple to build, especially if you can find used lumber.

Unless you already have a great spot picked out where you need to get in the air I'd also suggest trying a ground blind. They've been great for my kids and I've grown to really like them once the weather turns bad.

I use two sections of scaffolding. Each section is 10 foot high. The platform on one of my stand is 6 foot by 6 foot. The other is 8' x 8'
I secured a tin roof & plywood around the sides by wire. Camo with old artifical chrismas trees

I also want to construct a tower blind or two over a couple of my foodplots for my Daughter to hunt from. I also have 2 boys that are close to being able to hunt and would like to have the towers for when we can all hunt together! Here's a pic of something I'd like to come up with.

I hunt in a ground blind that pretty much looks like an outhouse with windows on the 4 sides. I would recommend not to use plywood if you have a lot of porcupines around. We tried it once and in a couple weeks the stand was half chewed up.

This is one i hunt out of. It has drywall in the inside and insulation "which i wouldnt do it if i were you guys if you have mice since theres tons of mice and rip it apart" 3 sliding windows, and a door. It also has a recliner in the inside and a coleman heater. I love the stand for late season up here in Wisconsin since it gets colld and whatnot. If you want to know more about this PM me and i'll tell ya how much it cost and all that if your interested.
