Guys give me your honest opinion about these high dollar carbon scent lock suits ... are they worth the price and do they ALWAYS work? Tell us your experiences.... mine have been varied.

Doc, working for an outfitting service, I have see a lot of folks that swear by them. But I have heard tales from many of them being busted while sitting 20 ft up in a stand. While other folks sit the same stand without a suit and have deer walk right under them. It takes a lot of work to not ruin one and to make it work right. My personal opinion is that the wind is going to play in whether you are wearing one or not and I am sure that having one on is going to give you that extra edge if it is used correctly. My gramps, and his gramps, etc., etc. never used them and they got their deer. It is all a matter of choice.

My boss uses one for bear hunting, he has had no problem with it, he harvested a nice black bear last year almost under his stand, undetected.

I think if you hunt hard, hunt the wind and use good sense you will be as successful. I've heard people say they had deer downwind from them with their scent blockers on. I have also, and I don't use scent blocker suits. It depends on how the wind currents do after it leaves your stand. I just don't believe you can be truely scent free. When they do a commercial with trained bloodhounds not locating hidden people, I will be more of a believer.

I elk hunted with a fellow last year that wore one - didn't make any difference. The suit I'm waiting for is the "movement blocker" - I want to be able to draw my bow without being seen.

I've used several different layers of both Scent Blocker and Scent-Lok over the last several years. I certainly would never buy into the "forget the wind and hunt" BS..... but when used as part of a scent REDUCTION system they can be very effective at reducing human odors! I have seen my hunting imporve considerbly since the season I started using them ('96).

If you don't want to learn how to hunt and control scent, wind direction etc. it might be a wise investment.

You still lose body heat and odor from the collar, sleeves and pant legs. For the price they are asking for this clothing I will spend the money on good scent elimination sprays and soap with the same results as the high priced scent blocking clothing.
