Default Interesting Boon & Crockett Stats

Did you guys know that the chances for the average WT deer hunter to harvest a B&C deer is about 0.0005 if you hunt an average piece of property and only slightly better 0.04 if you hunt proven spots that have produced B&C deer. So the odds of any of us ever getting a record book deer is like hitting the Illinois lottery! This infomation came out of Outdoor Life Magazine .... Well I guess I will have to start saving again for a trip to Canada ...

Doctor Death,

How much can one expect to spend up there in taking a buck of the caliber that you did?? Just curious as I've always wanted to go on a trip to Canada for whitetails.

IronRanger ... Canadian hunts vary a good bit depending on who you choose as an outfitter AND where you go ... I have gone 4 times ..twice in Saskatchuwan and twice in Alberta and I prefer Alberta. I think in general you can expect to pay 3500 to 4500 for a 6 day hunt. I would HIGHLY reccomend Alberta Whitetail Connection (he has a web site www.albertawhitetailconnection.com) and Don Tyschuk, he only hunts a maximum of 8 rifle hunters a year on his property and you stay with him at his new home. You need to be prepared to set 11 hrs a day in subfreezing temps to hunt there but Don puts you in an elivated tent blind with a heater to help some and be prepared not to see a LOT of deer however if your lucky enough to see a buck it is generally a nice one. Please email me direct if you have any other Qs [email protected]

Statistically, .04 is on the order of 100 times better than .0005. I'd say that's more than slightly better.

I'm confident the good Doctor's intent of the satistics offered clearly established the odds of harvesting a Boone & Crockett buck as astronomical, whether .04 or .05. The odds remain extremely long...the .05 notwithstanding.

Those statistics must be completely way off! I watch Bill Jordan and all those other T.V. hunters bag B&C Bucks every week on the Outdoor Channel

Absolutely amazing. It's a blessing to even see a B&C buck, much less harvest one. THANK YOU LORD!

Except in the B&C format deer harvested behind a fence don't count to their record books. Most of the B&C bucks you see taken on these shows come from ranchs where the animal would fall into the above catagory! Not only that Bills crew rarely talks anything more the gross score and the net is what makes or breaks it in terms of B&C! Simply said don't believe everything you see on TV!

My comment was made in jest. I don't put any salt in what I see them do on TV. I'd bet just about everyone in these forums could produce the same if they had the money and the time to hunt all the prime penned in areas.
