RE: What's everyone's experience?
Lets see I am 48, started hunting when I was 8, hunted almost everything legal where ever I lived. I just came off a 12 year sabbatical from hunting last year after moving to an excellent hunting area. Got 1 buck last year. I was taught by some of the best old timers in Va. Still learning about deer hunting which is all I hunt now, except an occasional turkey.

RE: What's everyone's experience?
Welcome!
This is an interesting thread!
Me I am 42 and a relative newcommer to hunting - 15 years primarily in Ohio.
I fished competetive Bass growing up and through collage but being a professional musician, weekends to go tournament fishing and weekends to work caused way to much conflict
After several years a buddy who worked at the music store I was teaching at invited me to go hunting so I got a shotgun and went rabbit hunting and also deer hunting that season. I decided that this is something for me and bought a Bear bow kit early next fall and a 22lr for squirrels. Started tree rat hunting and scouting for deer on public land and then bow hunted once that season came in.
I got my first Whitetail that fall in the first 15 minutes of gun season in a place I discovered bowhunting..... yes it does work sometimes
I am a dedicated Bowhunter, but will use a gun for meat hunting.
Since then I have been Elk hunting twice(bow), got a nice little Antelope in Montana on my Elk hunt there and had a 5x5 10 yards behind me but that is another story!
Africa twice(Everybody MUST seriously think about a safari as it isn't as expensive as most people think) and am planning my next trip.
Some great stories to tell about the animals I have had inside 30 yards but no shots and got an Impala and a Zebra in my 2 trips.(Zebra was a late decision to try so I shot him with the .303)
Had I wanted to gun hunt I would have been able to take just about anything I wanted- Blue and Black Wildebeast, Nyala, Reedbuck, Warthog, Hartabeast, Springbuck, Bleasbok, Duiker. I had all these animals within 100 yards at one time or another!

RE: What's everyone's experience?
I am 28 and this is my 17th year hunting, 15 with a bow. I get a deer every year usually several, but that means nothing because we have lots of them around. I've never taken a large or mature buck. I've never been out of state to hunt, but have hunted several different areas in PA. Besides deer, I hunt for small game, some turkey, and foxes. I don't get caught up in gadgets, just stick to basics. I also fish heavily for trout and smallmouths and do lots of shooting.

RE: What's everyone's experience?
Phade, Let me welcome you as well...I am 55 yrs old and have been hunting ever since I can remember. I have three sons (in their 30's)that are not only my hunting buddies but also my best friends. My youngest son has two boys who have already been hunting with their "uncles". Soon these two will be joining us reguarly and to me, this is what deer hunting is all about. My (Late) Dad was a hunter, I am a hunter, as are my sons and grandsons. We hunt exclusively in New England, primarly our home state of NH as well as Maine. We always do well (3-4 deer each year) considering, we do not have the hight deer numbers other states have. There is nothing in this world I look forward to than those days spent in the woods hunting deer with my sons, whether it's with a bow, muzzleloader or rifle. We all say when we are together at these special times..."Life is Good"!

RE: What's everyone's experience?
I'm 25 and have been hunting dear hunting for (going on) my 11th year. An Uncle got me into it at 12 and I use to go rabbit, pheasant, and dear hunting with him until about 16. I bagged a doe at 16 and again at 22. I am now waiting for the buck. It may be awhile as I have yet to see one it the woods during hunting season. I am unfortunately the kind of hunter that does little scouting (due to other time constraints) and only gets out for the first 4 or 5 days of the season. You know, the kind that real hunters love to hate. I wish I had more time to invest in it now but I can't. Well, good luck to you anyway.

I'm 28 years old. I started going hunting with my dad when I was about 4. I got my first bb gun when I was 5, I took my first ruffled grouse that year. I graduated to a .22 at 8 and went for grouse, rabbits and squirrels, every chance I got. At 9 I got a crack barrel 12 ga. and shot small game and migratory birds. I got my first centre fire at 12 and shot a forkhorn that year. I've been hunting as much as I can since. I've taken Black bears, Moose, Whitetail, foxes, coyotes, rabbits, doves, grouse, pheasants, ducks, geese, quail, turkey, and next year I'm gonna get me a couple of caribou. I enjoy listening to everyones hunting experiences, and I hope I never stop learning.
