shotgun scopes
What kind of barrel (fully rifled or smooth) and what power of scopes does everyone have on their shotgun? I've got a fully rifled barrel on my 870 and i'm just wondering how high/low a power i should have.

RE: shotgun scopes
I would recommend a scope like a 2X or 4X (32 - 40mm) or you can go with a variable power like a 1-4X, but those are usually not as big as a 40mm. 2X gives you an edge over the 4X when you are trying to zero in at closer ranges, especially in the woods.
Personally, we run 4X on our H&R Ultra Slug Hunters. I know mine again worked wonderfully last Friday morning. Freezer's full.

RE: shotgun scopes
i've got a nikon prostaff 2-7x32 on top of a winchester 1300 w/a rifled barrel. I couldn't be happier with the scope, its nice for those close shots and gives you a little more power for those longer range shots. i'm gonna put a little better gun under the scope next year. good hunting

RE: shotgun scopes
Remington 870 with fully rifled cantilevered barrel,20", with leupold vari x II 1-4 shotgun scope. my dad's is identical except he's got a VX-II. basically teh same thing. ive seen guys with them on their dangerous game guns, .458's and .416's for cape buffalo. we use them for whitetail in iowa. i like mine for thick cover too. swings nice, i can get on targets quick with the heavy duplex. i wasn't into the whole idea of throwing a riflescope on my gun. 7X or 9X is more than ill ever need for a shotgun. i wouldnt hvae it any other way as far as my slug gun.
