Like Jimmy S. We hang by the legs for all the cooling draining reasons. Drop them down and hang by the head when we skin them. Use the golf ball, rope and 4-wheeler technique to pull it off smooth as silk. This method has to be done from the shoulders down.

I normally gut mine in the woods, bring it home and hang it by the hind legs. Skin it out and then it wash down and let it chill out overnight and bone it out first thing in the morning. From there I either cut and wrap for the freezer or cube it up, put it in jars and pressure can it. Man, I can't wait. Bow season is only 4 weeks away.

Neck up here. The deer is field dressed before hanging. Then we use a golf ball to remove the skin, which is cut around the neck and slit to the shoulders. A STOUT ROPE is tied around the golf ball which is put on the inside of the skin. Tie the rope to a vehicle, even a 4X4 and go. The skin comes off in seconds.

I've always hung everything I skin head down. It just seems easier to me. One on my hunting buddies hangs his deer head up and I've helped him skin a few, but, because I'm so used to head down, it always seems backward to me.
