How long does your meat last?
How long will my meat last? if I wrap it in butcher paper and freeze it, how long will it still be good? I've heard 6 months from some folks and a year from others. I have some ( please don't go asking how I could let venison sit in the freeser so long) from last year. A button I killed in November. Should I toss it in the trash, or would it be edible??

If wrapped in coated butcher paper it should last a min. of 1 year. Wild meat seems to have a longer staying power in butcher paper to pork or beef. Even so I always double wrap by meat, adds as extra protection and when thawing doesn't leave as much mess like single ply. Pulled out a roast from my elk last fall to cook tonight that the wife found when cleaning the freezer and it was perfectly fine. Air is what freezer burns meat not cold.

Most of the meat I freeze is usually gone by March but what I can in the pressure canner usually last about a year before we eat it. I have been canning more than freezing lately.

I just recently finished a doe from two years ago. No problem with the quality of the meat. It was vacuum packed. I currently am enjoying another doe from last September. Meat is still of good quality. That doe was wrapped in saran wrap and then butcher paper.
