Deer - varmits or game animal
I hunt deer, but I hunt for meat. I've seen lately where people are getting dumped on for not respecting the animal and so on. I am thankful for every one I've taken and they've all been taken quickly.
There is a difference between farmland animals and forest ones, where their food supply is limited to the amount of deer an area can sustain.
But when I see areas offering more than two animals per season are they becoming more of a varmit than a game animal? Think of the crop destruction that happens throughout N. America. Areas are artifically sustaining more deer than it could otherwise. Geese are another prime example.
Then you have the gov't sticking their nose in, getting every dollar they can out of this sport. Ontario for example offers a second licence to fill the quotas in an area, claiming there herds are too big. The catch, they offer buck only during archery. If they want to cull the herds, give a doe for the whole season.

I call deer game animals, but a farmer I hunt on would call them varmits. But he would just as soon there not be any deer at all, so you would just have to take his version with a grain of salt. By the way, what should we call turkeys? Farmers hate turkeys more than deer.

Turkeys - Another Gov't cash cow. Same thing last year there was an article in the papers of farmers complaining about all the 'game animals destroying their crops.
It's not the farmers who brought gun control to the rural areas.

I love to hunt deer but when they ate all the shrubs and trees they became varmits, according to the wife . I don't dare even mention the turkeys they really make a mess .

I took 3 this year, but I probably could have taken 10 if it was legal, and I wanted to. I'm lucky to hunt where there is a good deer population, Not a lot of big ones, but a lot of deer. Many locals complain about the deer coming in their yards and eating plants. Farmers see them eating their crops. Drivers have to avoid them. They can be a nuisance, but i like having them around.

I'm a farmer and I don't call them varmits!!!! I enjoy seeing and hunting deer as well as other wildlife. Sure there is a down side when you get too many but too many is better than none.
