Gravity Deer Feeders
Im looking to make a few gravity feeders for feeding deer. Does anyone know of a way to make these fairly cheap and easily or know of a website were i can find any instructions. Ive been searching the internet but all i can find are sites selling electronic feeders. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Gravity Deer Feeders
Matto,
The most simple one I have seen is made out of PVC pipe. You can take any length and size you want, which will dictate how much corn, etc. it will hold.
Example: Take a 4 foot piece of 4 inch pipe. On what we will call the top, glue on a threaded section that you can screw in a cap (this is so you can put corn in it and screw it back in so corn won't get wet). Drop down the pipe and drill a hole all the way thru both sides to drive a nail or use a bolt so you can move it later. On the bottom glue on an elbow, then glue on a cap to this. Then take a saw and cut flat across the top of the elbow, you have to do this to stop the corn from running out on the ground, and you have a feeder. Bolt it to the tree any height you want as long as a deer can feed out of it. You can paint it if you want.
Remember, you can go with a larger diameter if you want. Another good homemade gravity feeder is: Take a 30 or 50 gallon drum. Need one that you can take the top off. At the bottom, on the side, cut a triangle hole, round if you want, do this on two sides, or more if you want, the more holes you have the more feed you'll be puting out. If you have hogs in your area it will be best to bolt the drum to a piece of plywood so they can't turn it over. It won't flow as good as the above pipe but once deer find it they will take their foot and paw at the corn to make it fall out.
A gravity flow dog feed is good. I have them in my dog pens (metal ones) and they hold about 25 lbs of feed. I have them bolted to the wire around the pen. I see no reason these wouldn't work. They cost about $25.00. They make plastic ones but squirrels will chew holes in them.
Hope this helps.
