wma hunting?

RE: wma hunting?
Raim, you need to do some serious homework bud. Every WMA has there own set of rules and regs as well as quotas, and yes WMA's are and can be very productive, especially if you have a poormans wallet. I suggest going to your state fish/games homepage and gather imfo on particular WMAs within your region and then gather harvest reports from the previous years. Good Luck, Bobby

raim, From your post I must assume you have never bought a hunting license in Georgia. If you had you would have recieved a copy of the regulations that explain in detail all of the most pertinent laws and rules applying not only to hunting in general but the WMAs as well. It can also tell you who to contact about hunter safety courses in your area.
To answer your question, the WMA "Stamp" costs $19.00 and gives you access to 99 WMAs throughout the state. Total acerage is in excess of 1,000,000 acres some owned some leased and some managed as a joint State and Federal effort. Seasons vary from area to area and are spelled out in the regulation book. Go to your local Wal-Mart or sporting goods dealer where licenses are sold and pick up a free copy of the regulations or visit www.gohuntinggeorgia.com

10-15 years ago my mom lived at the edge of Cedar creek wma and it was the top producer of deer in the state. It was also crowded at times.
Both 121553 and Coastie gave some excellent advice.

Got some nice meat in the fridge right now from a local WMA here in VA. they can be crowded but if you are willing to do some hiking you can usually find a nice quiet spot in there.

Hunting here in Nebraska at the WMA's I'm sure are a little different than you have to deal with in Georgia. One thing to always keep in mind, this is public ground and they can be overly crowded at times. My advise would be to let the "weekend warriors" have the WMA's on the weekends and get back in there first thing in the morning on Monday's. By then, most of the WW's will be out and you will be able to safely conduct a hunt at a WMA. Good luck to you!
