RE: how much do you spend a year on hunting gear
Boy I need to find a better way. . . you all seem to have it down.
So for one year me and 2 young sons.
lease fees $1500, corn, grain blocks etc. $200/300,Camo, goodies, tags and gadgets, $300, processing fees, 4 bucks, $300, Taxidemry, 3 bucks $1200.
Were not even gonna talk about the Remmington model 7 .260 youth rifle I picked up.
$3600 or so. That means I pay almost $15 a pound for venison this year. Still a great deal. There is no better way to spend time with my boys.
I guess we need to fill a few more tags and drop that price per pound a little more.

You guys are expensive what ever happened to just buying what ya need. Most folks allready own a coat, gloves, hat, pair of boots, etc... Do you all really NEED all the fancy crap or are you just having fun/ I know most people up in this next of the woods, even when they are first starting out don't spend that much. They find a cheap used gun get there lic, throw on a pair of boots, coat hat etc.. and go out.

Yeah it is expensive... but as someone already said, if you love and enjoy it as much as I do then who cares what you spend... IMO having some of the nicer things make hunting all that more enjoyable... I want the nice boots, and warm camo clothes to make my trips longer and more enjoyable...
Besides, It's only money you can't take it with you so enjoy it while you are here...

I got to thinking about this after reading some of the dollar amounts spent for a year and for the amount of pure enjoyment it is actually pretty inexpensive. Especially if you compare it to what people pay for other activities. One of my sons has got into pasture pool (golf) and we were looking at the cost of the cue sticks they use for that particular past time. Some of those darn things run more than the cost of a good rifle!! And club memberships could run you the price of a new Weatherby every year. Some of those places you could buy a brand new Holland & Holland double rifle every year and have money left over.
Mountain bikes I see around here run over $3000.00 a copy and they haul the darn things on SUV's that never get muddy!! All in all, this hunting thing isn't all that bad.

this is the first year that ive actualy got anything so i had to add it up to show my wife... after liscence, gas, butcher, makin sausage and gear it worked out to under 1.00 per pound. but i got two deer if i only got one then it would be alot more...
if i argue it this way with my wife, it makes more sense for me to get out there and get an other one!!!

Normally i start the year out saying there is nothing new i need this year, then after the first 400 dollar order goes out i have to reconsider it. think i spent about 350 on lic fees this year, new climbing tree stand, new muzzleloader, jacket, bibs and just sent in another order to cabalas for 250. yup, not much i am going to need for next year for sure, but then again, those cabalea catalogs just keep coming.
