My wife uses a .243 and when she isn't hunting I am using it. She has one of those cheap remington 770's. That thing shoots Hornady Superformance 95gr. SST sub 1" MOA. I can just about touch them at 300 yards. That rifle is just as accurate as my Tikka T3.
Great little caliber!

My dad bought me a .243 as a kid and that was a deer hunting rifle. Well now I'm 22, and a whole lot of deer later I'm still using the .243. I bought a 30-06 for hunting but have returned to my .243. Knock on wood, I have never had a deer make it more than 30 yards with that gun. Granted, I typically hunt in the woods so we are talking shots under 100 yards, but I'm confident I can drop a deer in it's tracks with that gun. Very little recoil and the most accurate rifle in my safe. I use the Winchester 100 grain power-points and have had very impressive results. I truly don't foresee myself switching to anything else unless something happens to that gun.

Hello All, this is my first post, I am glad I found this post. I too am using my .243 this hunting season...The deer season for South Texas started last weekend an cannot wait till I can get out there and take a deer with my .243 since I haven't used it in over three seasons.... I have taken it out of the safe and am ready to use it on some deer this year.

I handload for 7mm Rem Mag, 350 rem Mag, 375 H&H Mag, 450 Marlin, 9.3x62 Mauser, 6.5x55 Swedish and 6.5x54MS. I used to have a double rifle made by William Evans in 450/400 3 1/4 Nitro Express and I handload for that too. When you handload you get to shoot more and can develop a load that will get the most out of your particular rifle. Plus, you will have ammo when you need it. I've got at least 200 rounds for each of the above calibers except the 450/400 3 1/4 since I sold it off a few years ago.

My cousin killed a big boar bear about 500 lbs with a 6mm rem. But you can see powder burns on the rug. The bear was in a rock hole bayed by dogs. He killed other bears with hid 6mm all bayed by dogs. Others in his hunting parties uses 243 some times but most of the bears are in trees or in rock piles. But most of the hunters use 45/70 leaver guns are old standard 30/30.
