First time still hunting

I use a .30-30 Marlin 336C with a sling. 150gr. Winchester Silvertips.
From the forearm of the gun, the sling wraps around my left outside forearm, over the elbow, across my stomach to the buttstock which is tucked onto my right hip front at the belt.
It is held at port arms like this but the sling & tucked buttstock does all the work. I have hunted hours like this with no appreciable arm, shoulder or hand fatigue.
Sometimes I'll sling it over my left shoulder, scope up and to my left, right hand on the grip. Provides a quick transition to ready if I see something.

Can't beat a Marlin 30 30 or 35 Remington for a light carry short range deer rifle. A 45 70 is also great. Walk 1 step, look around, wait 3 steps, take another step, repeat. That swamp is a great place to find deer.
