RE: mock scrapes
I have tried the mock scrape thing here in NJ and my best success has been with no scent at all. I think that like a rubbed cedar tree, the scent of fresh earth turned over is an attractant. I think that since I hunt near a deer run, the deer expect to find scrapes there. So when they smell fresh turned up earth, they check it out. The best results I have are where I find a licking branch and make the little paw marks that are always underneath it into a scrape.
Also, been seeing alot of scrapes here so far this year. In one area there is almost a line of them. This is really weird since in my way of thinking, this is way too early to be finding so many.
