You better believe it is!!!! There is a reason why Remington has kept the design for nearly 62 years. When something isn't broken, they are not going to fix it. The 870 replaced the Remington model 31 in 1950 and has become a common household name for those in the hunting community. Congrats, you got yourself a reputable and reliable firearm. I have 5 870's. 3 Wingmasters and 2 express magnums. ( Can you tell that I like my 870's ?)

The 870 is probably the most used shotgun platform out there. They have variants for everything you could possibly want to use it for.

Just an echo at this point. The Rem. 870 has been one of the best and most reliable designs for decades. Get yourself a rifled barrel for sabot type slugs and you'll have a deer gun effective out to 125 yards +/-.
