RE: best time
I have hunted in tree stands in the past and have found the best time for my self to see deer is from 8:00 am to about 10:00 am. I don’t stay and my stand all day but I know some people do and have been successful.

RE: best time
The only time when I feel it' s worth sitting all day is during rut. The deer around here move at all hours at that time. Your chances of getting a buck at 2:00 PM are as good as 6:00 AM. I will start sitting early during the first couple of weeks of the season. The deer are still in summer feeding mode, and they' ll start moving by 3 or 4 PM. They' ll also move later in the AM.

RE: best time
During late pre rut through early post rut my best time is the middle of the day, so I will spend the whole day in the woods. Any other time the peak hours seem to be the best. I tend to spend more time in the evenings as a rule (just easier to get out more and away after work, etc).

RE: best time
Peak rut (first two weeks of Nov) all day is the ticket...you just never know when he will show up. I have seen them all day long. Another time when the middle of the day is best, is when it get' s bone chilling cold. It appears as though many people who frequent this board are from the south and it may not apply, but tucked on the shores of Lake Superior, it can get mighty cold and snowy....and the big boys cruise mid day during this timeframe. Otherwise, morning has probably shown more deer to me than later in the day.

RE: best time
Historically it seem that our group has been most successful mid-morning...7-10, but we have taken deer at all hours of the day. We all stay from dark ' til dark and only when someone has tagged and needs help, do we come out. We do this because it not only increases our chances, but more importantly, we do it because we want to. There' s a big difference. Simply put, I (we) would rather be in the woods during deer season, than anywhere else. And out track record proves it.

I try and do the whole day in my stand, even when the rut isn' t on they will move with a big front or storm coming through, well actually right after the storm is over. In a nutshell you can' t kill a deer from your house! If the wind is right during gun you can slide in near their bedding areas, they do get up and down all day just to loosen up a bit.
