Default hunting in NY

Going on a hunt in Finger Lakes Region of NY and wondering if its any different then hunting up here in Maine? I will take any tips I can get. I will be hunting in heavily farmed area between Seneca and Cayuga Lake. Any help is welcomed.
Thanks

Sounds like you will be hunting in heavily hunted area! I hunted Keuka Lake area a few years ago, and I still can hunt it, but the place was like a war zone. I honestly never hear anyone shoot that didn't empty their friggin gun every time I heard a gun go off.

There were so many tresspassers on the property, and one guy, even though he was on private property, saw me in my tree and just stomped and made as much noise as he could when he walked through the area. He was actually pissed that some one would invade his hunting area, even though he didn't belong there.

I hunt extensively over near Conesus Lake. Farm deer are different from big woods deer. You will probably see a lot of deer. Remember that these farm deer will hide in places you would never believe one could hide in. Always amazes me.

You with an outfitter?

No I have a small farm to hunt on with hedge rows and fields and then a gulley inside a small tract of woods.

just got back from Moose Hunting in Maine, beautiful country and very nice people. You may be in for a shock. Still hunting from tree stands is most common here. Find yourself a stand and sit tight. Let the impatient ones help you find your deer.

Croc,

NY deer are different than Maine deer, especially farm deer on private land. Also the Finger Lakes area is heavily hunted and also (from what I've heard) loaded with deer.

I made up a spreadsheet for NY State deer season that might help you out a little as far as various hunting times, sunrise/sunset, moon phase, etc... I posted it in the Northeast forum too.

I'm heading to New York on the 18th too and am going to hunt my sister & brother-in-law's farm in central NY. It's going to be great!!!
