Default First deer of the season.

I was in the stand about 20 min. Friday morning the sun wasn't even fully out so it was still kind of dim when this guy steps out at about 125 yards. I turn in my tripod and get my 300 Wby aimed on target just as he starts to enter the brush. I think my chance is over when he turns around and gives me a quartering from shot. I put the cross hairs on his shoulder and boom. He comes off his feet and almost turns over in the air, he hits the ground and never even twitches. The bullet was a Hornady 180gr. SST it entered on the shoulder broke it then traveled up the spine and exited out the neck.

Hey, good job! Nice shot too. Those Hornady shells are good. I use the Hornady 130gr. SST in a Rem 700 .270 and it works for me...big time. I'm just lucky my gun likes them right out of box with very good accuracy. Too bad you didn't get him on camera. That almost flip you talked about would have been worth seeing. Being that you got rocked bad by the .300, he probably did, but you missed at after getting your teeth rattled. LOL!

Nice picture and congrat's a placing a nice shot on a good buck!

Rifle really doesn't kick that bad. I have the gun weighed in a 10+ and a libsaver on it so it really doesn't bother me.

Yeah It was a bit of overkill. I got the rifle as my one day I'll hunt... Rifle and wanted to go ahead and get it bloody. I already cleaned it and put it away and got the 270 out and ready to go.
