Deer Check-In
#11
Here in NC you can call it in, register you kill online, or carry it in to check it in. But i agree that if you are going to have a law that says that you must shoot a doe before a buck or before you can take a second buck then you should have to bring it in and actually have someone see it. Because in the end you are actually going to record alot more does being harvested than there actually is.

I don't know of any check-ins except on public land, which I don't hunt. We have a voluntary check-ins throughout our hunting clubs, but I only check-in the bucks I kill while doghunting. The incentive to checking in deer is that there are 10 giveaways of various prizes from shotguns to money. It's nobody's business in the club how many deer I kill but mine and my hunting crew.....

I hunt SE Louisiana and they only have check-in on opening day of open gun season, then it goes to the phone-in system. And while I have never hunted private land, I am 99% sure the check-in rule only applies to deer killed on public land.

Nebraska just started the check-in online/phone system this year. I don't know how I feel about it.
It will be easier to check my deer in, but the first thought I had was how easy it will be for people to kill bucks they don't have tags for.
Of course, the system can't be used for rifle season where most of the deer are hunted.

Here in Tn,just this year they are implimenting a internet check in.You can now either check your deer in VIA internet or you can take it to your local check station, most of the time a gas station.I really enjoy takeing my deer to the check station, get to show your kill off and get to shoot the bull with other hunters,Im afraind that check stations are slowly being faded out,We are living in the good old days of deer hunting right now fellas!! Live it up or hunt it up
