Hunting Southeast Kansas

RE: Hunting Southeast Kansas
The public land is dicey. I go to school in SE kansas and all we had for a while was public. My friends and i would scout hard core and hunt every morning before class. Great doe hunting but its just takes time and alot of luck to pull a nice buck from public land in these parts because there just isnt that much public land to go around. Thank god we knocked on a few doors and got a few hundred acres for next year. Oh and i just found out i have access to 10,000 acres of prime deer hunting when i go back to school..SCORE! Your best bet is to knock on some doors or be prepared to scout hard and get to the land EARLY before anyone else gets your spot.

hey bro I hunt greenwood county. Ive heard of comanche, but not sure where it is. if you are close enough to drive to greenwood and can get a tag for the area check out the public land at fall river.. Took a 200 inch 16 typ in 03. See numerous 150's during the rut... Every year for the last 10... good luck

Check the KDWP website. They have maps showing the public and WIHA areas. Some are pretty good. I was hunting a WIHA in DMU 19 this past weekend. Plenty of deer. Unfortunately, the corn hadn't been cut. So, you had to get into the thick stuff to see anything. Some other hunters on the land shot a small 6 point using the "block and drive" method. I only managed to see a doe or two. Once the corn is down, it should be pretty easy to at least get a doe.
