Ruger what a great picture! Good for you.
I got my girlfriend into bow hunting last year and she killed a nice turkey with her bow last year. No deer yet but its coming. My nephew lives with us now and he is looking forward to his first turkey hunt later this week. I might be more geeked up then him. Its close though.

I am teaching my best friend who got tired of city life and also my younger cousin with the help of my uncle. I know I am just barely old enough to be doing this myself but I have scored a few nice bucks and what we do now to teach others sets up the next generation of hunters.

I've taught my son to hunt deer and bear the past 7 years and he finally connected on a buck this past fall. He's taken a few does but nothing compared to his expression when he showed up opening day with the only buck of the group of 9hunters.I was almost as proud as the year before when he took his first bear.
Now that he's off at college, I've turned my teaching to a group of boy scouts and girl scouts. I created a Venture Crew last year and took 12 youth bow hunting. We had a blast preparing for the 4 day weekend hunt with weekend 3-D shoots and skill discussions. Though we never harvested any deer on our hunt, the group is hooked and I'm looking to repeat this venture this fall. Too bad my farm house only holds 12 beds which are already accounted for this October. I suspect we'll have a few camping in tents in late October in NW Wisconsin as more and more youth have been asking to join our group.

We generally run a state sponsored youth pheasant hunt and this year a youth turkey hunt. Once the kids pass their hunter safety course, we take them out and teach them skeet, trap, etc... We also go over the specific game hunting tactics for what we are doing... ie field of view, extra safety, dog working, etc...
I have taken several youngsters deer hunting and have had a blast.
We are in a dying sport that must be passed on to the next generation(s).
