i hunt almost every day from oct 1 til jan.
1st I must say those were some nice bucks, but from your 1st post to the last post you just made I figure your out roughly 90 days. That doesn't sound too easy to me.

I agree with you in the fact that I do not like the guys baiting the deer and it is illegal here. Most still hunters I know bait deer to be honest. Not all but most. It's illegal here in VA during hunting season yet they still do it. Quite a few of them break other laws too while baiting the deer but baiting is the #1 law they break.

What gets me is these same guys are the ones complaining that hunting with dogs needs to be outlawed in VA because those guys just don't do stuff legal. Infact most of the dog hunting I know of is a lot more legal than most of the hunting in stands I know of that goes on. Somehow all the non hunters seem to take the stand hunters word and think that dog hunting is wrong. Like it's okay that they sit there and illegal bait the deer and shoot them. However, it's wrong to legally have dogs chase a deer. Out.

If it wasn't illegal and they weren't the ones complaining about how hunting with dogs is cheating and how it should be banned. Then a few of them thinking all dog hunters break the laws when most of the ones I know don't. Yet somehow they all see it as okay for them to feed the deer and shoot them when they are coming to eat. Yet that really is illegal.

its simple baiting makes it easy, camera's to find your deer are like having someone else hunt for you. mottz ,no the way i hunt its not easy. i enjoy the hunt, and don't mind spending the time to hunt. i'm willing to spend a month to kill a big buck and some baiter kills 10 in a few days. its not right.

hometheaterman, i don't live where dog hunting is legal. i have hunted with dogs, but don't really like it much.it doesn't take much dog pressure to make deer real smart. the main reason you are hearing about the push to outlaw dag hunting in va. is to many rich people buying up land ,horse farms and nonhunters. its hard to keep dogs off there property. sooner or later they will stop it.money talks. its the same with bear hunting where i live, running bear with dogs is a big thing on national forest . i really don't think the bear has much chance with a bunch of dogs on him,but we have some areas that have to many bear. bear cause alot of damage every year.

I have a challenge for any seasoned hunter >>>>>> Pa Gamelands # 52,Good luck. One hint ,Take a sign you can hold up that says,( Keep moving hunter I aint here to bullcrap). You will have to hold it up 100 times a day.If you are lucky and spend several hundred hours there in the season you might get blessed by God and see a doe or 2.

Yep, I'm familiar with where you live. I have a few friends in that area. Dog hunting is already illegal west of the Blue Ridge in VA.

Do you do any bear hunting? I know several guys that do over that way but I've never tried it myself.

If you think hunting is too easy, come on up to northern New England.
No cameras, no baiting, just miles of woods with the deer population lower than you probably have ever experienced.
We have some of the biggest bucks in the country that dress well over 200 pounds. The kind of deer that will take you breath away.

So, if you want a real challenge, c'mon up and spend a week hunting these big bucks.
You might be lucky enough just to see one.

Up here in NEPA it is the same way. Quite challenging.

I'm confused now. Cameras just take pictures of 1 point of direction. Its not like they get up and follow deer around. All they do is let you know partially what may be out there. I have pics of deer I have never seen. So say that is lazy. What about the use of binoculars or spotting scopes? See alot further than normal eyesight. Hunting is a waiting game and a right place/right time challenge.

i like to go into a new area with know idea whats there,no camera's ,no feeding. just hunt for a few days and half the fun is trying to find big buck sign on new property. i like to kill a buck the first time i lay eyes on him. its the way everyone used to hunt where i live, now we have guys feeding so much you will hardly ever see a deer on some property. they just as well go high fence and just raise farm deer to shoot.

i saw a guy near me last week with a bunch of new feeders on his truck, thats fine now. come sept 1 its illegal to feed deer in va. so this year i'm sending the warden to them all.
I know how you feel, in America i feel alot of people have got away and miss the point of what hunting is all about. Here for example we use the traditional art of red stag stalking in the Scottish Highlands, its damn hard but puts your skills to the test. Here in my part of Scotland there is no cover to hunt the deer (roe deer) so you have to be good to get a decent shot.

We do not use scents, and all the other BS. It's always good to get back to basics. I believe it makes you a better hunter.

Only time we use a blind/hide is when we're hunting game birds out in a field.
