Default Sportsmen Should Tell ‘American Idol’: No “Home Sweet Home” for HSUS

3/12/09

Sportsmen have been contacting Fox Broadcasting since the release of our action alert yesterday about country music star Carrie Underwood’s rendition of “Home Sweet Home.”

According to Carrie Underwood’s official website and Sony Music’s country label, the song is going to be used each week on the hit television show when a contestant is voted off. The first airing of the song was last night, March 11.

Unfortunately, Underwood has made clear that a portion of the proceeds from subsequent sales of that song will go to benefit the largest anti-hunting organization in the nation, HSUS. This will give HSUS even more money to direct towards hunters, anglers, and trappers nationwide. You can read about this on HSUS website, by clicking here.

“Carrie Underwood has decided to use her talents to benefit an organization dedicated to destroying the rights of thousands of her fans,” said U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) senior vice president, Rick Story. “HSUS does not operate or oversee animal shelters; it is a radical organization that seeks to end hunting and other responsible uses of animals in America.”

Story said that sportsmen must send American Idol a strong message that its indirect support of HSUS, is not appreciated.

Sportsmen can make a difference. Companies such as Iams, General Mills, Accor Hotels, Pet Safe, Sears, Meijer Inc, and Ace Hardware ended relationships with HSUS after thousands of sportsmen levied strong protest.

The USSA will keep sportsmen informed of developments on this issue.

Take Action! Sportsmen are urged to contact key personnel at American Idol’s parent company, Fox Broadcasting and demand that Underwood’s song not be given a stage to raise money for HSUS.

Letters should be sent to:

Mr. Peter Liguori
Fox Broadcasting Company
Chairman of Entertainment
10201 West Pico Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90064-2606

Phone calls should be directed to Fox Broadcasting at 310-369-3066.
Faxes should be sent to:310-369-1283.

Also, e-mail the show at [email protected]. Do not use the previous e-mail we sent in the previous action alert, as sportsmen have been receiving an automated e-mail.

I would write in, but that would mean I'd have to admit to watching "American Idol" on HNI. Dont think Im ready for that yet. Im not admitting it, but if I was to admit it on HNI, I'd be telling people, "Ya, I watched American Idol, but I had a dip in my mouth, drinking a six pack of Bud Light and gutting a deer" to make it more manly!!

Just joking around here, I do watch the show DVR'd to fast forward through the crappy parts. Im pulling for the Rough necker (Sp?) and the blind guy. Two good stories.

Well HSUS is attacking sportsmen and their rights everyday but they are also going after agriculture as of late. They are trying to change the way animals are raised which they don't even eat. I am always trying to tell people not to support this organization because a lot of people think they support humane societies or animal shelters in their area which they do not. People donate money not knowing this when actually they are supporting a terrorist organization which wants all animals to run free accross the land and humans scrape the moss and fungus off the bottom of rocks for food[:'(].Being involved in animal agriculture this hits me deeply especially since they are pressuring Ohio now to change the way animals are raised in my state. The already passed a bill in California it is only a matter of time if they are not stopped before everyone will face higher costs in food because they don't know the real facts about animals and what HSUS wants.
