Here in Texas, deer hunting on private property without permision is considered paoching. In just the past couple of years this has become a felony. The game warden can confiscate your gun, your truck, and revoke your hunting license indefinately. I've heard that some ranch owners, especially here in south Texas where everything has thorns and bites that ifland owner catches you that you may end up "missing". Read between the lines on that one. 95%+ of the land in Texas is privately owned. Deer hunting/leasing is big business.

"Always ask landowner permission permission to hunt on private land" . It's a common courtesy .

i wouldnt go hunting on anyones property with out permission no matter what the laws says. just because its legal doesnt make it right. is it ok for a person to get off for murder just because there was a law that mad a loop hole in it ,just because its legal doesnt mean that every one agrees with it, the state has no right to tell you what you can do on your own property that you pay taxes on ,and anyone that thinks its ok to go just doesnt have any morrals or respect , all you have to do is ask its not that big of a deal how would you like it if i came into your house and ate all your food just because the door was unlocked and the law said it was ok, same difference.

Ray, you sound very knowledgeable about this topic in IL. I'm also an IL hunter. For this hypothetical what's the worst a hunter could be faced with: written permission in my possession, but wandered onto ajacent property and hunted w/o permission. CPO arrives on scene...
Is this only a $75 fine?, this would be a spring turkey shotgun example. Can you receive warning also?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read/heard that in Fla you can be shot for being on private property with a firearm without permission. I always thought this sounded a little extreme! Any truth to this "old west" mentality?

My own view is different. If I catch you on my land and don't know you the reason why I should have will be pointed at your midsection and you'll be ******ed off the property with a clear warning to never return. An armed person on my property without my direct invitation will be viewed as a threat to my safety and a test of my state's Castle Doctrine law.

In Wisconsin you'd be seeing stars if you hunted on private land without permission! People get very protective about their land. What's the point of owning land if anyone can go on it? I don't understand, it doesn't sound safe during hunting season, am I missing something?

I appreciate all the debate and replies this post has generated. Nice to see that some states respect landowners! If some of you want to take the time, take a look at this post. You'll see the attitude of many of my fellow VTers.A thread started about extending bow season in VT....then look what happened!!
