RE: to shoot or not
Most of the time they are so small I wouldn't even consider shooting.......with the exception of my west Texas"longhorn" spike....that one I did knock down.

I agree with the consensus here...LET HIM WALK. If it's meat you are after, then shoot a doe. The meat tastes the same, plus it will help with the population. Shooting an immature buck (i.e. yearling) is not something I would consider a great accomplishment unless it was a first deer. I am not condemning those that do, and I have killed two myself (first one was my first deer after hunting for 5 consecutive years and the last one was mistaken for a doe...spikes were less than 1" and he was at 130 yards).
Makewhat you feel is a goodchoice for youso long that it is legal in your state and does not go against the landowner's/club's rules. You will be the only one that will have to live with it.

RE: to shoot or not
What does everyone consider a spike?? I have seen several 2 pt deer over the years but only 1 or 2 that I would truly say was a spike. I have always considered a spike as a deer with 2 antlers that grow staight up (like a unicorn). To me that deer won't be worth much, but I rarely see deer like this. On the otherhand, I see lots of immature 2 pointers that antlers are growing up and out with a defined mainbeam curvature. This deer will produce a rack of some sort in the next few years and should be allowed to pass IMO.
