Last year I opted to get off a big West Texas lease (10,000 acres) for something a little closer to home. My dad and I leased a small 200 acre tract about a mile from my house. We have seen a lot of deer. My wife took a 9-point opening day and I took this one over Thanksgiving. We have not seen the 120-130 class deer that were fairly common at the other lease, but we have harvested two nice bucks. It has also been a great place to take my two boys. I caught this buck cruising for does mid-morning. He was walking with a smaller buck.I dropped him in his tracks with a Savage .223. I have set up game cams on this property and hunted it pretty hard since the end of September, but I had never seen this buck. He broke off about three inches of his left G2 and ended up grossing 108 7/8. Not a monster by any means, but I'm proud of him. My first buck was harvested in East Texas.
