To me, it sounds like a liver shot. If you didn't bump him this evening you should find him pretty close to where you left off tonight.
X2! Get out there at first light, you'll probably find him! If it is cool, the meat will still be good!

That is correct i waited 20 min after the shot to track.
If you knew the shot was back, why'd you only wait 20 minutes? I wait 30 minutes to get out of the stand and check blood, and that's with a GUN.
It's really easy to be an arm chair hunter!
Cut a little slack!

Not an armchair hunter at all, just trying to give advice for next time.

Dark blood and far back, I would have waited til morning or at least give it 5 or 6 hours then go back with a lantern. Anyway, good luck finding it tomorrow.

OK, no problem! Just did not want to be overly harsh on the guy! I've told people that they "pushed" the deer before too (probably a little harsh myself at times!)
But, even the best of us get "caught up in he moment" sometimes, making apoor shot, or excitedly pushing a deer that we should have waited on.

Should have waited longer with a dark red arrow, atleast a few hours. In my (limited) experience, a liver shot deer will laynearly asquickly as a lung shot deer. The trick is not to scare them up untill they have time to die.

I know i should of waited longer but i didnt want to lose the light i had left.
Would you rather lose light or lose your buck? Not going to be harsh (don't wanna get yelled at by Jag), but with a hit like that you should've backed out. Way to early to pick up the trail. Chances are he's dead and probably would've been laying within 200 yards if not pushed. Get back on his trail. Best of luck to you.
