What Caliber Do you shoot?
Im A Big guy, I can pretty much handle any caliber rifle. I shoot a Ruger 243. When it comes to deer I dont want the biggest and baddest, I wanna know that my placement of that bullet matters the most.300 Win Mags and 45-70's(although I do use 45-70 single shotfor primitive cause its legal in mississippi)just do to much damage to the animal, and you can just about hit a deer anywhere but in the foot and kill it.

Im fairly tall and while not a big guy, Im not small either. I have a 30/30, 7mm rem mag, and a 300 ultra that I use for hunting. Of those, never scored with the 300 ultra, and have taken a few with the 7mm, and a couple with the 30/30. The little lever doesnt do much for damage, while the 7mm mag does noticeably more. One thing to keep in mind, your choice of bullet design is as much of a factor as caliber. A hard cast lead bullet in a 45/70 probably isnt going to do much damaged compared to a softpoint or hollowpoint, or partition/Aframe versus an accubond etc.
Of the rifles named, the 300 is the most accurate, but I like the 30/30 and 7mm mag the best, and admittedly, the 300 is overkill, lol.

My caliber of choice for this season has been 6.5x55 Swede in a Blaser R-93 Professional. In case some don't know, the R-93 is a switch barrel gun, and I also have barrels in 22 lr, 308, and 9.3x62.

I get to hunt the PA rifle season and like my .35 or my newer .308. I have never taken a buck with either of my guns but, missed with my fathers 30/30 and took a nice buck with my brothers .35.
The .308 is dead on and I have all the confidence in the world with it. I do enjoy hunting with the level .35 and 30/30 as both will get the job done in the Poconos! I don;t feel any of these are overkill and <100 yard shots perfect for me.

This is my 15th season with my trusty 30-06 remington pump. It has puta lot of venison in the freezer in all those years. Three antlerless and one seven pt this year.

I am a .30 caliber fan and have two rifles for two different styles of deer hunting.
Old Marlin 30AS .30-30 with plain iron sights: I use this in the heavy brush, briars, and very heavy woods where I can drop a deer at max 50,60,70 yards.
Savage .308 with Bushnell 3-9x40 scope: This is my "go-to" gun and can do everything the ol' .30-30 can't. I use this up on ridgetops, clearings, overlooking an old pasture, etc... where I can drop a deer at 200 yards if need be.
