VAs Big Buck Down BBD!!!!!!! Updated with story.
Ok today was the worst, and by far the luckiest hunt I ever had . This morning was our opening day of rifle season. For starters the temp. was 67 with heavy showers and possible T storms. Wind 10 to 12 mph gusting to 30. At 4:30 am I looked outside and it was pouring rain so I went back to bed. Got up at 6:30 rain had stopped.
My wife was going to take my son to school for wrestling so I dropped him off on my way to the woods. My brother called to say he had a buck in the clear cut behind his stand and his son had just shot at a buck go figure my luck deer moving everywhere. Getting to the woods finally I started still hunting in the wet leaves. After 3 hours and ¾ of mile then the really torrential rains came and soaked me to the bone . I then went back to the truck and waited for Andrew to get done at school.
Back at home I watched more rain and wind. Then at 2:30 I decided to go to our newly leased property wanted to check my trail cam and hunt the one stand I’ve put up there. I get there more rain, called my brother to complain about rain and wind couldn’t understand why I have to work 60 hours a week when the weathers good . Then get this on Saturday.
Rain slowed I got out and put my rain gear on because I know it’s going to start again . I headed down the trail to check the cam on the way to my stand. The pines along the trail are planted 8 ft apart in rows and just tall enough you can see under the bottom branches. As I walked I checked each row hoping to see a deer. About 75 yards down the trail I spot a deer grazing in the rows. Its fairly thick there so the deer was only 15 to 20 yards away when I spotted him with his head down. He was a little bit over a knoll so I could not see his rack but when he picked his head up this is what I saw !!!
