Where's my stand?
I hunt using a millinium (sp?) lock on. Last Thursday I finally had a chance to go bow hunting here in MS. I'm lucky if I get to go once every week and a half, so I was really excited for my first trip out this season. I moved some of my stands and put up a new stand using tree steps about 2 months ago. Well I get up get dressed and head out to the stand. I thought it would be cooler so I overdressed for the occasion. After my 1/2 mi. walk to the stand location, I cannot find my stand...I shine my light around and then determine that this must be the tree. I raised my light to see my tree steps and receiver bracket in the tree. Lower my light to find the bottom 3 or 4 of my steps removed. I called the land owner after day break and reported the incident. Only one other has permission to hunt the same area I do. I then returned to the scene of the crime to find a nice 2 man ladder stand not 30 yrds from my stand location. As this has probably happened to many of you I was livid. Now that I've had a few days to reflect I draw another conclusion. I'm still angered about the missing steps, not because of value, but because of principle. However, this man's actions has now cost him years of free hunting as he is not allowed to hunt the property any longer. I also realize that he is not the only one to suffer from his hasty action. His two young sons, now have no where to hunt, at least for a while. Imagine their disappointment.
I write this to you who have been in my shoes...I now can say I know how it feels to have your hunting stand violated.
To those of you who may consider tampering with others stands, please don't...you may not be the only one who suffers when caught.
I have my tree steps back...time to go hunt.

RE: Where's my stand?
i did indeed think of taking the ladder stand. It would have been a good trade for my $10 worth of tree steps, and that was my original thought. But I didn't want to be unethical in my hunting practices as he had been. So I decided to contact the land owner and he took action for me. He was actually probably more angry about the whole thing than I was.
