How Many Deer Have You Harvested?
I came across a statement in another thread that caught my attention:
200?! I can't even fathom that. I've been hunting 4 years (not counting this year yet) and taken 5 deer. At that rate, I'd need to hunt for another 160 years to catchup to retrieverman! (I do know a few fellows locally who have large families and hunt deer as their major source of meat that would meet or exceed retrieverman but they're atypical.)
How many deer have you harvested and how many years have you been hunting deer?

In 25yrs....I too haven't kept track. I'm guessing around 30 with bow, probably double that with gun. Mostly does, especially the last 10yrs.
The only number I know for sure is how many whoppers I've taken - 0[8D]

2 bow, 3 gun over 8 yrs. Also took 2 caribou gun out of province a few yrs back.
Could have been alot more if tags available (just recently got the opportunity to buy more than 1 tag/year in Ontario), but there are other years that I hunted both gun and bow and never drew or took safety off all fall.

I haven't kept very good track. When I was younger there were several years where we were able to take 5 deer each year. I hunted from age 12 to age 17 (I was off at college when I was 18) so that was 6 years. I'm sure some years I didn't take 5, I would guess maybe 20 to 25 deer as a kid. I was able to go back and hunt a couple times during college and shot a couple deer each time and then didn't get back into hunting until last year and shot 2 deer last year. I would feel pretty confident I've shot between 25 and 30 deer in my lifetime. I've shot a couple antelope and a couple elk and a black bear and a dozen or so wild hogs as well.

I've taken somewhere around 35 with a bow and at least that many if not more with a gun. I'd guess that half of them were does since I have over 30 sets of antlers in my collection. I've yet to mount one though in 35 years of deer hunting. I have 2 or 3 that would have made nice mounts but I've never claimed to be a trophy hunter either. I just like hunting and usually never kill more than I can use.
