i have been wondering this to. God that must stink. Someone gutted a deer where i park i have been getting dressed at home due to the smell.

Everyone tells me to gut the deer in the woods and the animals will eat it so hopefully it will be gone soon

I've shot deer in the evening over the mornings gut pile several times! It doesn't usually bother them.

I've never gutted my deer near where I hunt. Just no good reason for it thats what I've always done. I'll either gut it near the road using the gravity of the ditch to roll the guts out. Or if I hunt the other place I drag it up by a old abandoned house and gut it. The critters will find it anyway no matter where you leave your gut pile.

A deer's reaction to a gut pile, a dead deer, or any other dead animal in the woods is likely the same. They don't know what or how it happened, it's just there, and they probably don't like to smell it, be around it, just like you or I wouldn't. They don't associate a gut pile with a human, which are the only things as hunters we need to be concerned with.

well really couldnt drag her to a road edge..i am in a suburb and that is the last thing
the people in my area need to see i was there today and removed my double
bull blind for a few weeks. the deer had been in there that evening..i could tell that.
i am going to rest up this week and then get at them next week when the weather
becomes cooler..its just 2 hot out. im tempted to hunt my mothers area in DE this
yeah, but i just wont have the time.

Are gut piles usually dont stick around long. The buzzards and coyotes clean them up fast.

when they're fresh deer don't seem to mind them, and even take in interest in them sometimes. but after a while it seems that you see less and less deer if the gut pile is taken care of by other animals.

It may have just been the extra human activity that had the deer spooked out of the area and not the gut pile.
