Default RE: best K9 for deer?

Here in Florida, we have hunted with about everything from redbones to blueticks to walkers to beagles. About 20 years ago, we had an unlimited amount of land and plenty of hunters so we used big, long legged walkers to push the deer pretty hard so we could get more looks at him.

Later, when most of the land was either leased up or closed by St. Joe Paper Company, we downsized to small beagles. The deer were not pushed as hard and we stood a better chance at getting a look at them. Oftentimes, the deer would hit only a crossing or two before they were out of our area and into a lease so we had to be able to stay ahead of them and the dogs. A slow beagle made it easier.
