The other Im looking at is a Remington 870 Express Cantilever slug gun;

RE: 870 slug gun vs. H&R Slug gun
Let me tell you now the H&R Will out shot almost any deer slug gun out there no matter 20 or 12 gauge. First off i have a 20 gauge 870 with a Cantilever barrel and i love that gun have killed many deer with it very light. My dad has a 20 gauge H&R that gun is a bruiser if your killing deer or what have you i would stick with the 20 gauge like Joe sad before the 12 gauge H&R's barrel looks like a elephant gun...All in all i would choose the H&R for a deer slug gun though all out a GREAT GUN...the only thing is you better make that first shot count with the H&R
GO With the H&R you wont be disappointed

The H&R with out a doubt!!! I shoot the H&R in 12ga, it is just a pleasure to shoot, so damn accurate. My two boys shoo the H&R in 20ga and I believe their guns are better deer guns than mine. They shoot 2 3/4" lightfields, which throw out a 1 ounce slug. The 20ga's shoot so flat, no recoil and deadly accurate. Go with the H&R!

RE: 870 slug gun vs. H&R Slug gun
I brought the H&R Ultra Deleuxe in 20ga. last year, using Hornady SST slugs, this gun i a true tack driver, in my 28 years of hunting I have never seen a shotgun group as well as these H&Rs, no need to get a 12ga., todays high tech slugs for the 20ga. will equal if not out perform the 12ga.
if you want more then one shot, then the H&R isn't for you, but all it takes is one shot

RE: 870 slug gun vs. H&R Slug gun
I would have to agree with the above posters. I have an H&R slug gun in the 12 gauge, as does my son. We both have an 870 as well and mine has a special slug barrel. My 870 shoots great because of the special barrel but its still not the tack driver the H&R with the bull barrel is. We hunt from treestands, use scopes and the great accuracy of this gun plays into our hunting style. One standing shot is all thats needed. If you are into stillhunting or driving then the 870 with a special rifled barrel(not the combo type barrel)might serve you better for more mobile targets.

I have shot both Killed deer with both and hands down the H&R is the better of the two when it comes to accurecy
The 870 is a great all around gun but for a dedicated slug gun go with the H&R
