ridges, steeper terrain

RE: ridges, steeper terrain
Also watch for buck trails about two thirds of the way up, usually paralleling a main trail near the top. If there's a continuous flat at that point on the ridge or hill there's a good chance that bucks are using it to move along the ridge without exposing themselves. The deer will come down from the heights to feed on the corn, then go back to the ridge tops to bed so that they can hear anything coming and have time to bail out. Watch for hardwood flats such as oak or beech on the ridge tops or at their base, then scan for the nearest thicket or brushy spot with cover between the two.
