I posted this a few years ago and got a lot of flack for it but we did the ethical thing. Anyways my buddy made a bad shot on a deer with a bow, we did not find that deer that evening or that night, the next morning I went to my stand and he went to look for the deer again, he found it , he put a round in the chest of that deer, the deer stood up and tried getting away, he had the arrow in his hind hip and one bulet in the chest, he then basically unloaded into the deer with that 9mm, and it finnally collapsed. That deer took about 3 perfect rounds in the chest and about 2 more in the body and about 3 more in the legs.

A hot 9mm round can get pretty close to .357 mag ballistics, and probably better out of the longer barrel of a carbine.
Why does everyone think killing a deer is so difficult and you need so much power to do it? You can kill them with cap and ball muskets and .410 slugs, a modern 9mm round with the proper bullet should be plenty to take one with proper shot placement.
My personal opinion distance wise with a 9mm carbine probably 50 yards and in.
Wouldn't be my first pic for a deer gun, but it would work in a pinch.

If a 9mm acn't take a deer within a reasonable range (50 yds), I wonder why a .22 is usually the favoourite gun employed by poachers ??

And because a 22 is reasonably quiet

Anyone care to voluteer taking a 9mm HP or .22HP in the chest at say 100 yards?Didn't think so? * a 17" carbine isn't a 4" pistol.I'd put humane shooting at 50 yards or less with a 9mm HP and a good marksman behind it.............and don't think a .22 is a toy either[Massad]...Harold

I find myself often amused by people looking down so much on the 9mm. Think around the world how many animals and people the 9mm has taken down. i know in handguns most people think if it ain't a 1911 in 45 or 10mm it couldnt kill a muskrat. Now I don't think to well of the thought of deer hunting with it. But if you are well practiced and have a closer shot and nothing else to use I'd say alright. I have a feather industries AT-9 carbine. It's actually quite accurate at 50 yards. not shot 100 with it but I will soon. I am about to scope it and use it for a truck coyote gun and if during big game I happened upon the opportunity at 50 yards or so I'd be confident enough to go for it.

Kaiser Wilheim used a 96 mauser carbine with a shoulder stock in 9mm to hunt with due to a physical disability for roe deer and wild boar.In carbine form it has much better ballistics and could hit human sized targets at 200-300 yards consistantly.Winston Churchill packed one in the Sudan and had nothing but praise for it.Anyone with experiance will tell you it isn't what you shoot it's how well you shoot it.Always has been. Always will be.........Harold
