Yes Emo is the name of the town. It is part of Ontario. It's just about 20 miles or so north of International Falls, MN. I just wondering about some hunting regs, how difficult is it to get a rifle across, am I able to buy a license over the counter, is there a waiting period from when you buy your license to when you can hunt, how is the hunting, what type of terrain is the area?? Any or all info would be much appreciated. Thanks

You've got to be kidding me. I thought everyone knew where Emo was. It's on all of the world globes for God's sake. 20 miles west of Fort Frances, bordering Minnesota with the Rainy River separating the two. Population 750 (more or less) 2 general stores a couple of gas stations. Curling rink (natural ice), big arena, 1 school (elementary...older kids shipped to Fort Frances for High School). Main drag 1 short block long consisting of 1 of the general stores (the other being on the main highway) Tompkins hardware and a variety of other shops. Shops on main street only on one side of street as other side is a steep slope down to the river. Two creeks entering main river on both east side and west side of town. West side great for bass, middle section super walleye fishing, and eastern crick great for northern pike after a heavy rain. Hangman's crick as it is known , has yielded 27 pounders. Not bad for a spit of water no more than 10 feet wide and 6 feet deep when swollen. Deer hunting great, little known road 7 miles east of town off of main road great for grouse, not travelled by vehicles, apple orchard at end of it just off the rail tracks. Big bodied deer, nice racks, good coloration. Racks around there mostly deep browns. Good mixture of farmland, bottomland and ridges. Nope never heard of it.

You cannot buy a gun over the counter in Emo,or anywhere else in Canada for that matter unless you hold a valid Possession/Aquisistion Licence POL PAL!!!!!!!! Your quetions sound really suspicious to me....I think we'd better notify the Homeland Security Police.......Brampton Mike

BM: Before you call the cops, you might want to go back and re-read Stump's post again. He's not looking to purchase a gun, he wants hunting lisence info.

Stump: I will say this, its a minor pain to cross into our neighbors country with a fire arm. You'll need to purchase a permit for around 50 bucks or so. You also might want to do some other research on crossing the border before you head over. Ever had a DUI? Any felonies? Those 2 could cause you some problems. As for hunting, I'm not real sure on what you can and cannot hunt on your own over there. I believe you must stay at a outfitter or other resort and hunt through them. Perhaps one of our neighbors who's not as paranoid or suspisous as Mike could give you a little more info.

I appreciate all of the info. Maybe I should explain my situation a little more before Brampton starts thinking that I'm going to come in there and shoot everyone in sight. My buddy has gone up to that area to bow hunt for bear for the last three years and has gotten to know the outfitter fairly well. The outfitter has extended an invitation for him and myself to come up there for a whitetail hunt. I was just trying to find out some info about the area and some of the hunting regulations. This will be my 1st out of state hunt, so I just want to know as much as I can before we head up there and run into something that isn't expected. For example.....here in MN when you buy and firearms tag, you have to wait a couple of days before it is valid....just wondering if it's the same there? Can I buy a license over the counter and hunt the next day? As to getting my rifle across the border.....I've never had a DUI or any fellanys. Sooo can I just pay $50 at the border and be on my way or do I have to fill out some paperwork in advance? I just don't want to run into anything that would mess up my hunt.
