Mule deer taste like chicken.
Whitetail taste like chicken too but with a more corn fed flavor.

Frostycanuck, I see by your profile that you are from British Columbia. Being new to deer hunting, you will undoubtedly have taken the mandatory hunter training (CORE) course. Refresh your memory with the excellent descriptions of both species in the manual that you will have been provided with.

the best way is that the mulie has a rope like tail and bigger ears. you can't go by the horns because the mulie horns look like a whitetails up to a 3pt. once it becomes a 4pt. it's easier to tell.

I'm with Skeeter.
Looking at you a mulie has a white face, whitetails have a brown face.
From the rear whitetails have the large tail with white underside which flashes when they are alarmed.
