The enemy is slob hunters. Bow hunters are our friends--and the ones I've known were great people.
This cannot be repeated enough. As a gun and crossbow hunter, I'm going to say more gun hunters fall into this category. Not becasuse they have to, but because many people, in general, feel they can just pick up a gun and shoot something. That same group also seems to think buying a license makes them a hunter. They are the door slamming, coughing, smoking hunter amongst us. Nothing wrong with that, unless you ruin my hunting which I am carefully preparing for. I am turned off by gun hunting season here in OH because I find a ton of this. And finally, my favorite is trespassing and using the excuse, "I lost my bearings." That doesn't happen in MT because trespassers can and will be shot on sight! Ever hear of a GPS?!!?!?!? Rant over.

I have never hunted with a bow in my life. A friend of mine hunts with bow and gun, but I have never actually done it, not once.

I admire bow hunters and I would love to try it. With a rifle a shot can be taken from a much longer distance (duh) and I kind of feel like bow hunters work harder to bring them in because the shot has to be so much shorter.

In the next couple years I plan to give it a whirl, but as of now I just don’t have the experience with a bow to actually go out and try it. I wouldn’t be confident that I’d place an accurate shot, I'd end up hitting the deer in the ass or something if I didn't practice. lol

I dont know about an elitest attitude but I think we should all do our best to ethicly harvest game with whatever equipment we use.
I agree with buffhntr. I do both, we are all HUNTERS so nobody should be better than anyone else.

I have no problem with bow hunters at all! I hope to be able to afford a bow soon so i can get into it as well! more time in the woods, if you can do both gun and bow. no reason to believe that one is better than the other, each person will have there ownpreference.

Bow hunting strikes me as much more difficult than gun hunting. Consistently successful bow hunters are probably much more skilled hunters than gun-only hunters. My guess is that bow hunters probably invest more time practicing to shoot their bows accurately and more time scouting the habits of deer. I have no beef whatsoever with bow hunters. I didn't know bow hunters either felt superior to gun hunters or disparaged gun hunters, but it is likely that they could advance some powerful arguments for that kind of behavior. Do bow hunters roar around the woods on 4-wheelers? Do bow hunters shoot wildly and carelessly at deer? Do bow hunters trespass and hunt on property without permission? Do bow hunters take pot shots at deer from their trucks or from the public roads? Do bow hunters hunt while drunk?

I do not bow hunt and have zero interest in bow hunting. I am a modern rifle hunter only. I just happen to love modern, high power rifles with scopes. Maybe this comes from having read outdoor magazines growing up as a kid and becoming entranced by the slick looking rifles with scopes.

I would bet that there are probably two to three that get away wounded for each deer they actually put down.
I cannot hold my tongue to such an ignorant statement! I have killed 25+ deer with bow and drilled EVERY single one of them through the vitals for easy recoveries (usually 40-100 yards before they drop).I have NEVER wounded a deer in my 12 years of bowhunting.Your statement would imply that Ishould have wounded 50-75 deer by now. Are you nuts???

Maybe it's because I'm new to all this, but why do you distinguish a difference between gun and bow hunters? All it is is weapon preference. Bullets or sharp sticks.

I guess they forgot to mention that you bowhunters seem to be a mighty sensitive lot also!! You may have dropped all your deer, but I guarantee you a heck of a lot of bowhunters haven't. The same can be said about gun hunters also, but please don't tell me that the bow is some sort of death ray, cause it surely isn't! A heck of a lot more can go wrong when even an expert bowhunters lets the arrow fly compared to the expert rifleman. You obviously have been lucky so far.

I hunt Bow, Gun, and muzzy.
I respect all good hunters. I think there are some bow hunters that believe that gun hunting isn't really hunting. To each his own i guess

I am not sensitive. I just don't like it when people make ingorant statements on subjects that they know little about. I have done more than my share ofBOTH gun and bow hunting so I speak from EXPERIENCE on both issues. Yes if I shoot at enough deer in my life with bow i will probably loose one sooner or later just as it can happen with ANY weapon. Wounded deer are due to HUMAN error...not the equipment. So you think I am lucky huh? I guess it has NOTHING to do with the thousands of practice shots I have taken over the years with my bow? [&:]
