If it was me and we are in the rut like you should be now, I would be grunting,bleating and rattling.
If you are more post rut already, grunt and bleat like a doe that hasn't been breed yet and hope
to draw out the bucks that are still chasing. Rattling in post rut is less affective because the
Bucks are just plain tired and don't have the energy or will to fight. But they will respond
to a doe bleat.

To me rattling is better in the early part of the rut (Pre Rut). Here in Minnesota I would be doing more calling then rattling right now being the bucks are breeding doe's. I'm just going by what has worked for me in the past.

Best advice............ pray for snow and cold. Hunting pressure has a drastic affect on Illinois deer. Foul weather is just about the only remedy for the effects of first season's hunting pressure. If weather is warm, check fencerows and waterways. They love open country after being shot at once or twice.
