I have a .44 mag that my wife bought me last year that I forgot about..... I am gonig to bring it with me this weekend now that I have read this post. I think anything over a .357 would do.

I use a Smith and Wesson Model 29, .44 Magnum caliber. 8 3/8" barrel. I diduse a scope, but I finally changed it back over to open sights. Scopes are alright, but I reccomend open sights, because it is alot easier to get on a deer. I also know a few who use a .357 mag, and they are alright, but I prefer the power of the .44.

I'm very confident to 50 yards with my peace. It's a 4 5/8" Barrel Ruger Vaquero. It's chambered in .357 and for hunting I load it with 180gr hardcast. It just has the standard front post typical of most of your old cowboy guns which some find it difficult without a true rear sight, but it shoots straight and true and that's all I need to know about it.

I shoot a Ruger Super Redhawk in a .44 Mag. with the 7.5 in barrel.I shoot 300 grn Nosler Hp's out of it. ( handloads) I also have a 2X Leupold scope on it.... From a sand bag rest, I can put 10 shots on a recipe card at 100 yrds. Took a 8 pointer last year with it at 40 yrds. Double lung shot, went 80 yds, then fell over. Ill be using it again this season.

ORIGINAL: DANTHEHUNTER

RSRH .44mag 7.5" barrel leupold 4X scope.

I use this exact gun for close shots. It does a number on deer. IMO Ruger makes outstanding revolvers. And the 7.5" barrel is perfect.
